In Australia, complementary medicines are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). These include traditional herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, vitamins and minerals, homeopathic (diluted) preparations, aromatherapy products (such as essential oils), as well as traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) medicines. Depending on their classification, complementary medicines must be registered with the TGA, meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards, and have local sponsorship. To be legally sold, they must also be listed in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and display either an 'AUST L' or 'AUST R' number on their labels.
At Costar Pharma Laboratory, we offer expert guidance in label and claims review, ingredient analysis, and the registration of complementary medicines.
